Nice site! I have a similar take on local history. When I was in school in Boston, no one told us that both John Hancock and Samuel Adams had lived in our part of town, or that local men served with the Minute Men in the battle of Lexington. Memories of our district had been wiped clean by time and immigration.

Interesting article; odd though that you should start off by mentioning the old hospital buildings, reminds me of the hospital here in central PA. I myself was there for a relative some time ago and for the first time noticed the old architecture of a wing of the hospital just barely visible behind the ER structure. I knew that the old State Hospital (built 1912) had been in the area but since it is now Geisinger Hospital and the facilities are mostly new, I hadn't realized that sections of the old State Hospital still remain--thought it had been torn down like most other fine old buildings in this area. But, it's there; unfortunately, just not what it used to be.

Oh Donner:

I absolutely love this article. So interesting and well written.

It reminded me of something my neighbor once said, "I never see people in wheelchairs." I told her it was because she never looked down.

We don't see history because we never look around.

Thanks for the look.
