it’s true, some do some don’t – my mother’s side kept some things, enough that I’ve found 3 cousin’s and lots of things from them. My dad’s side has kept nothing, I’m even stuck past my grandfather, I tihnk I know more, but can’t ‘prove’ it yet. But, like you I do have my memories and am trying my best to put them in writing. (and being new to fb I’m learning how to share with the rest of the world.) – c

I come from a long line of “Toss Its.” I even married one.

Now I have to stand by the door and search the trash bags as they go to the bin. He’ll throw out anything – I’ll throw out nothing.

Those life story heirlooms are only good if we save them. So many times I’ve heard people say, “there’s nothing interesting about my life.”

Great story! It should have us all thinking and writing. Now I’ve done it – can’t get this song out of my head: wishin’, and hopin’, and thinkin’, and prayin.’

Great post, Donna. I’m often thankful for my fellow pack rats – no, my fellow family archivists! – who have saved family treasures over the years.

Unfortunately for me, most of the branches of my family either saved nothing or sent it down another side of the tree. I feel your pain.

Thanks for sharing and for the beautifully-worded suggestion to “make our life stories our heirlooms”.
