Nice article Donna. I never thought about the possibility of my grandparents and great grandparents being able to vote back in Poland. I just assumed that since they were peasants they wouldn't have been given the right. It's nice to know they may have had that opportunity.

For what it's worth, I consider myself an independent too. Even though I've voted in every presidential election since I was 18 I can honestly say there hasn't been a single candidate that I could throw my support behind. I always end up just voting for "the lesser of 2 evils". Even the candidates of the lesser parties haven't interested me. Sadly, but not surprisingly, I feel the same way about this year's election.

Donna,

Don't feel bad...I voted the first time in 1980 (old enough in 1976) and didn't again until 2004. This means I spent my whole 20 year Army career without voting. Part of my reason for not voting was my healthy distaste of the way our elections work...the absolutely stupid things (and usually untrue) each party accuses the other of...but mainly it was I just was not interested in anything these bozos had to say.

The funny thing is, looking back on it now, there was not a single presidential candidate during that whole time that I would have any interest in voting for.

I still don't have a whole lot of interest...no politician (in any party) inspires me at all, but I'm voting to set an example for my kids.
