I hadn't thought about my walks to and from elementary school in this way. I love the map! Thanks for the inspiration to jot some of my memories down.

For instance a neighbor had a German Shepherd that decided it was fun to come out and stand in front of me and bark. I was terrified and would stand there and cry. The neighbor came out and explained the dog had decided to have fun with me and that I should keep walking and ignore him. I did and it worked!

Donna - You have also inspired me! I had forgotten about simple things like this, but now I can remember quite a bit about my walks home from school, even a couple of sort of "exciting" events. Wonderful, evocative post - especially the sounds you would hear - now that really stirs up the memories.

I remember walking home from grade school at lunch and then walking back. I was lucky my Dad was home for lunch too so I was allowed to walk home otherwise I would have had to stay at school for lunch.

I remember RUNNING home after grade school to watch "Dark Shadows" a TV show about vampires. I could get home in 5 minutes so I didn't miss to much of the program.

What a terrific post Donna! Now you've inspired me too. After reading Greta's Memories posts I too was thinking about writing up some of my memories. Now you've made we want to do that even more!

Your post really got me thinking about my walks home from school, as well as to catechism, to the neighborhood park, and from the dance studio.

Thanks for sending me down memory lane :-)

Absolutely remember my walks home from many of the 14 schools I attended. Don't know about retracing them as school consolidation has affected them.
My favorite walks were those when I wasn't being chased by bullies. Here's a helpful hint. If grabbed from behind by your shirt collar simply surreptitiously unbutton your shirt front and resume running.
