Donna - Sorry to hear you didn't find the information you were looking for. I do want to say thank you to Sheri though for mentioning the mug book idea. I'm still actively researching the Naramore family murders, and Sheri's tip gives me another idea for a new angle to try. Thank you!

Mother, wouldn't that be typical if the only photo of my great-grandfather is a mug shot? I actually thought of that... Unfortunately, the folks at the Philly City Archives aren't too, ah, forthcoming with info. I have to take a ride down there in about three months when the ice melts.

Sista Donner,

I know where you can get that photo you want - go to the county where your grandfather was arrested and see if the mug books are still exist. University of the Pacific Special Collections here in Stockton has the San Joaquin County Sheriff Departments "mug books from 1900 to about 1930" These books document the arrest andhave a photo of each person arrested with lots of good info.

Also - If he went to a State Prison check with the State library or archives.

At the California State Archives in Sacramento, prisoner files from San Quentin and from Folsom Prison from about 1870 to 1935 are at the archives and the file for each prisoner almost always has a photo as well as tons of info about his /hers family.

Not that I would know anything about "doing time".

Love,
Mother

Do you ever wonder-what's so difficult about sending a copy of these records? Especially when none of this info is online anywhere, and you KNOW they have the records you need, that they didn't release to you years ago. Sure, I know there's "red-tape"-but you're past that point. Like you said, all your ancestors who would have been alive have been dead for 20+ years. How frustrating! (I'm having nightmares about my Dutch Ancestors who applied for citizenship in the 1890's...)
