I like to think I shared most of my favorites with my kids when I read them to them when they were small. But who knows what forgotten treasure there might be?

A great collage, Donna. My thoughts run along the same direction as yours. My scrapbook page is a collage of pictures that remind me of home too :-)

Donna, your pictures certainly capture 'home and family' nicely! And, very creative use of the 'wordle' application too. I love it!

Donna,
Thank you for an interesting article about the CCC and events surrounding your father's life.

I hope you will not mind my pointing out that a strabismus is a turn in the eye (= squint when the term is accurately used - see http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?squinting+eye ) You may be interested to know that squints can run in families.

Strabismus can exist with or without a lazy eye, or amblyopia. The OMD definition here is not, I feel very accurate, and a better description of lazy eye can be found at:
http://www.answers.com/topic/amblyopia?cat=health

Shakespeare's 'Dost thou squinny at me?' is not always correctly interpreted... I'm impressed I have found a use for that fact I learnt at college soooo long ago.

Again, thank you for sharing your interesting articles.
Bronwyn.

Henson,

Thanks for writing! You reminded me that I should have added in the article (Part 1) that the age requirements were eventually lowered to include more young men.

Great story: I was in the CCC for six month in 1942. I was in three camps, as they were closing them. I was only 15 years old. I enjoyed the experience of being in the CCC. The money that was sent home helped my family.

Looks like we're on a similar summer schedule, Donna. I've been travelling, too, and am happy to be getting back to a little bit of normalcy again.

Your photos are beautiful! I especially enjoyed your photos of Dubrovnik. It is one of my favorite cities in the world. It has such an old world charm and an amazing view of the Meditteranean. I have fond memories of time spent there.

I'm looking forward to reading more from you now that you're back! Welcome home and Happy Independence Day!
