I realize that this was written some time ago.... I have some questions or thoughts or whatever who may wish to call them...

I have a Wincenty (Vincent) Marion Sieradzki married to a Jozefa (Josephine) about 1912. Vincent was born 30 Mar 1888, Poland, died Mar 1969, McKeesport. Vincent is the sister of my great-grandmother, Victoria.
Later on he ran a grocery/butcher shop on 5th Avenue, in McKeesport. The shops and houses are no longer there, as a freeway overpass was built over the area.

My Jozefa was born abt. 1891, Poland and died in 1964, McKeesport.

My question.... Is your Josephine the same as mine? I have her maiden name as Klimowicz, with her parents as Teodor and Maria.

Around 1956 I had an English teacher at Homestead Jr. High, Homestead, Pa. (very near Pittsburgh) who claimed that she was Gene's sister. At the time I wasn't sure I believed her, but now I realize that it was quite possible. Does anyone recall her? Her last name wasn't Kelly (probably because she was married) but of course I can't remember what it was, though I believe it was a Polish name.(ending in "ski"). According to her she had been a dancer but injured her back and was stuck teaching English to us. She did kind of look like him, being of small stature and with dark brown hair.

I found when I was studying genetics that about 10% of fathers were not who the child believed it was. In a racially pure community, this is one thing but in a mixed world like Canada/US, doesn't this mean that a lot of our genealogical research is inaccurate?
Castle looks pretty Polish to me.

Donna -

I have just come across this article thanks to your iGene Awards post. This is an incredible story and one that is so very important. I am heartened by the fact that this heroic man and his family members' stories will not be forgotten thanks to your research. So many of us are connected to the unspeakable tragedy of this horrific time in history and often do not know it. Their pain should be our pain - we should never forget. Thanks again for putting the time into writing this incredible story.

I'm glad you pointed out that only the Porcelain steins have the lithophane on the bottom. It shows that you know your steins and aren't just copying from another blog. I'm not an expert on old steins but I do sell new steins. Most steins sold today are the stonewear varieity and it may surprise you that most of the steins are not purchased by men but by women over 45 with college and kids. I would say that most of these steins are used for decoration and have never had a liquid in them.
